Description
The dovecote and pigsties with a screen wall are located to the east of Resugga Farmhouse and date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of squared granite rubble and feature a slurried scantle slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends.
The dovecote is the central block, with stabling on the ground floor and a pigeon loft above. On either side, there are lower single-storey pigsties that create a symmetrical ornamental front. Attached to the left side is a screen wall that runs in an L-plan, connecting the dovecote and pigsties to the farmhouse and screening the farmyard at the rear from the garden in front of the farmhouse.
The dovecote itself is two-storey and slightly projects from the range on either side. It has a central round-arched doorway with a dressed stone arch and a plank door featuring a weatherboarded tymparium. Above the doorway, there are four rows of square pigeon holes with slate perches, arranged in diminishing rows within the gable. The pigsties on each side have blind fronts, while at the rear, the dovecote features an external stone stair leading to a loft door with a granite lintel. Each pigsty has three doorways with plank doors and strap hinges.
The interior of the dovecote includes a cobbled floor with a drain and a stone manger along the rear wall. The attached screen wall is approximately 2 meters high and features a short range with granite coping.
