Description
ST STEPHEN IN SW 95 SW BRANNEL 3/122 The Stack House - II
Engine house; converted into a house. Late C19 with C20 alterations. Granite rubble with brick dressings. Asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. There is a C20 stack at the rear gable end, and the original chimney for the engine house is attached to front right. Plan: Rectangular plan engine house, with chimney attached at the front gable end to right, the bob wall formerly at the rear gable end. Converted into a house in the C20. Exterior: 3 storeys, asymmetrical front gable end. Ground floor has C20 half-glazed door with segmental arch. First and second floors have C20 2-light 8-pane casement with round brick arches. To right there is the attached chimney, of circular plan and tapered, truncated and now only rising to the height of the roof ridge. At the right side, there are two similar windows at ground floor one at first floor and a 2- light 3-pane casement with round brick arch at second floor. The left side is built on a cellar, with half-glazed door at ground floor and two 2-light 3-pane casements, smaller blocked window at first floor. At the rear is a round-arched blocked opening for the beam; second floor has 2 C20 4-pane casements with granite lintels. At the base of the wall there is a channel with granite walls to right and left as housing for machinery. Interior: Not inspected.
