Description
The Stack House is a late 19th-century engine house that has been converted into a house, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of granite rubble with brick dressings and features an asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. A 20th-century stack is located at the rear gable end, while the original chimney from the engine house is attached to the front right.
The building has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys tall with an asymmetrical front gable end. The ground floor includes a 20th-century half-glazed door set within a segmental arch. The first and second floors each have 20th-century 2-light 8-pane casements with round brick arches. The attached chimney on the right side is circular in plan, tapered, truncated, and now only reaches the height of the roof ridge. The right side also features two similar windows at the ground floor, one at the first floor, and a 2-light 3-pane casement with a round brick arch at the second floor.
On the left side, which is built on a cellar, there is a half-glazed door at the ground floor and two 2-light 3-pane casements, along with a smaller blocked window at the first floor. The rear of the building has a round-arched blocked opening for the beam, and the second floor features two 20th-century 4-pane casements with granite lintels. At the base of the wall, there is a channel with granite walls on either side that housed machinery. The interior has not been inspected.
