Description

This is a farmhouse with an attached barn, dating from the mid-18th century. It likely incorporates parts of an earlier building, with later additions and alterations. The farmhouse is constructed of roughly coursed slate-stone and polyphant rubble with granite quoins and a floor band. It has a slate roof, hipped at the left end of the main range. The building follows a basic L-plan, with a short range projecting at right angles to the left.

The front of the farmhouse has three windows. The upper floor has 16-paned, horned glazing bar sashes with wedged polyphant voussoirs to segmental heads. The ground floor has paired, horned glazing bar sashes with similar voussoirs, plus a small inserted window to the left. A central 20th-century glazed porch covers a flush six-panel door where the overlight has been replaced with panelling. There are integral end stacks to the left, an external end stack to the right, and an external end stack to the rear on the left, all with drips and moulded capping. The right return of the projecting range has a 20th-century casement window on the upper floor and a French window directly below. Several lean-to additions are attached to the rear wall of the main range.

The attached barn, to the right gable end, is of a later date and has a straight joint. It features a brick-infilled segmental-headed doorway on the ground floor with wedged voussoirs and a keystone. A window has been inserted into the infilled opening directly above. It has an asbestos sheet roof.

Inside the farmhouse, a partial inspection in December 1987 revealed chamfered cross beams on the ground floor of the front projection. The barn has a continuous loft and a 19th-century King-post roof in three bays.
