Description
Trembath Mill is a watermill dating from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features a scantle slate hipped roof. The building has a rectangular plan, with a wheel pit at the rear that housed a large (25-foot) overshot wheel, which extends for most of the length of the structure. There are masonry piers at either end of the pit that supported the former leat launder. The machinery, including a pair of stones, is reported to be intact, although it has not been inspected.
The mill is two storeys high over a basement and retains original openings, with 19th-century or older windows and doors. The north front is symmetrical with two windows and a central doorway, featuring ledged doors. There are remains of possibly original 12-pane, 2-light windows on the first floor and at the right of the ground floor. A doorway leads into the basement at the left-hand end. The rear of the mill shows remnants of a wooden waterwheel with an iron hub, along with a small opening to the basement on the right, a tall opening at the left of the ground floor, and a tall central opening to the first floor. Trembath Mill last operated in 1941.
