Description
A pair of attached houses, now flats, was built in 1865 by WH Hawtin. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with ridge stacks and a concrete tile hipped roof. They are designed on a double-depth plan and are in the Italianate style. Each house is two storeys and an attic, with a two-window range. The ends of the pair are set forward, featuring single-storey porches on the returns. The ground floor is banded and features a moulded band, while the first floor has a sill band, frieze, and cornice. A full attic storey extends beneath overhanging eaves. The porches have semicircular-arched doorways with keys and imposts, plate-glass fanlights, and two-panel doors; a doorway is also positioned in the left-hand middle window. Canted bays at the ends have semicircular-arched windows with keys and imposts, thin hoods curling up at the ends, and paired brackets supporting an arched cornice. A balustrade incorporates circles and half-circles. Ground-floor windows have semicircular arches internally, segmental arches above, and tripartite upper sash windows with ears and a segmental hood over the central pane. Flat-headed attic windows have raised surrounds, and all windows are 2/2-pane sashes. The interior of the building has not been inspected. The property includes attached front garden balustrades and panelled, capped piers. It is one of a group of seven similar houses, four of which are distinguished by projecting middle sections.
