Description

No. 27, Victoria Square is a house dating from 1862, likely designed by J.A. Clark. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with lateral stacks and a slate and pantile hipped roof. The building follows a double-depth plan and is in the Italianate style, comprising three storeys and a basement, with a three-window range. The left side of the facade projects, featuring pilasters with rustication at ground floor level, decorative panels on the first floor, and incised decoration at second floor level, culminating in bracketed stone eaves. Steps lead to a central doorway, framed by pilasters, with panelled sides to the overlight and cornices, and a two-panel door. To the left is a three-light bay with panelled lintels and balustrades, featuring semicircular-arched windows with foliate capitals, moulded archivolts, and panelled aprons; these are paired on the projecting left side. Basket balconies are present at the rear windows. The stacks have cornices. The interior of the building was not inspected.
