Description

Malvern House, now a college, was built in the early 19th century. It is a double-depth plan house with a rendered exterior, limestone dressings, lateral and gable stacks, and a coped slate double-pile roof. The main facade faces the garden to the rear and features clasping pilasters to a parapet. The ground floor has a verandah with wrought-iron railings beneath a tiled, tented roof supported by stanchions. Large, wide tripartite windows are flanked by 6/6-pane and 2/2-pane sash windows with fine bars. Above are further 6/6-pane horned sashes, and two attic dormers. A 6-panel door is located in the left-hand gable, which faces the road, with a semicircular arched stair light above. A late 19th-century extension is present to the right (not included in the listing).

The interior features a central axial passage and a dogleg winder staircase with slate treads, stick balusters, a ramped rail, wrought-iron and wreathed rail to the half-landing. Original features include 6-panel doors, panelled reveals, and shutters.
