Description
The Lodge to St Monica's Home of Rest is a house dating from 1874, located on Cote House Lane in Stoke Bishop, Bristol. It is constructed of pennant rubble with limestone dressings, featuring a tall ashlar stack and a tiled gable roof. The building has a T-shaped plan and is designed in an eclectic Picturesque style.
It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. A central apsidal porch extends through the eaves and is topped with a leaded cap. To one side of the porch, there is an elaborately carved entrance featuring an elliptical-arched doorway with a dated key, panelled pilasters, and a large decorative panel above that displays heraldic devices.
On the first floor, there is a cross-window that also breaks through the eaves, topped with a gable that has finials. The ground-floor windows on either side of the porch have rounded corners and are adorned with a pediment that includes ball finials. The right gable features a canted bay and a first-floor window with a segmental pediment. The porch includes a bench set in a niche. The interior has not been inspected.
