Description

A terrace of five houses and shops dating to around 1780, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 19th-century shop fronts added. The buildings are constructed of brick with limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and hipped pantile roofs. They follow a double-depth plan and display a Late Georgian style.

The terrace comprises three storeys, with numbers 39 and 43 having four storeys, and each unit has a two-window range. The façade is articulated by banded pilasters to moulded copings, though the coping is missing from number 39. Shop fronts were added to numbers 35 and 37 with large consoles supporting the fascia and featuring plate-glass windows. Number 43’s shop front includes panelled pilasters, consoles, a fascia, and a dentil cornice, which continues to the right return and incorporates a corner doorway. The remaining shop fronts are 20th-century replacements.

The windows are segmental-headed, with five stepped voussoirs; numbers 37-41 have fluted keys, number 43 has a keyed lintel, and the second floor of number 37 has a keyed architrave, all to plate-glass sashes. The interior remains uninspected.
