Description

Lynwood is a house built around 1820 or 1830, constructed from squared, coursed Pennant rubble and limestone ashlar, with ridge stacks and a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped, double-depth plan and is designed in the Gothick style. It stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.

On the left side, there is a porch featuring a hooded, three-centered doorway with a boarded door, along with scalloped barge-boards that have round ends pierced by quatrefoils. The corners of the house are slightly projected to create clasping pilasters, and the central section is slightly forward, topped with an ornate ashlar parapet that includes an ogee arcade and a rectangular carved panel in the center.

There is a canted bay with three pointed windows and a crenellated parapet, with ashlar panels below and a label above the middle window, showcasing interlacing glazing. To the right, there are coupled Tudor-arched windows beneath a label mould on both the ground and first floors. The left return features a three-window range beneath three gables with barge boards and heavy octagonal pendentives, and two ground-floor windows are located under the left-hand gable, which has a moulded string.

The house has four ridge chimneys with two and four hexagonal ashlar stacks, connected by a moulded cornice, while the main range has square slate pots. Inside, the staircase is notable for its octagonal newels with moulded caps, moulded handrails, twisted balusters, and fretted Gothick tread-ends. Some cast-iron window shutters are present, and much of the original landscape planting remains intact.
