Description
42 and 43 High Street is an attached house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It was built in 1763 by Thomas Paty and features a brick construction with limestone dressings. The building has a right-hand brick lateral stack and a double hipped pantile roof, following a double-depth plan in the mid Georgian style. It stands four storeys high and has a three-window range. The current shop front, which is from the 20th century, includes a right-hand doorway, a recessed shop doorway, and a plate-glass window. There are pilaster strips leading to a cornice and parapet, with five stepped voussoirs above the plate-glass sashes and second-floor casements. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of Paty's efforts to rebuild the city centre.
