Description
The mortuary chapel, built around 1830, is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary in Henbury, Bristol. Constructed from squared coursed Lias with limestone dressings, it features a stone rear stack and a slate roof, showcasing an Early English Gothic Revival style. The chapel is small with coped gables and a parapet. The east end has three stepped lancets set between clasping buttresses, topped with a quatrefoil in the steep gable. The north side has three bays of lancet windows, with the middle window slightly projecting between buttresses and featuring a parapeted gable. On the south side, there is a central chimney breast leading to a decapitated octagonal stack. The attached wall at the west end includes a pointed doorway beneath a cornice and parapet. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Thomas Rickman was involved in the construction of both the church and the nearby village hall during this period and may have designed the chapel as well.
