Description
The Hatchet Public House is a public house dated 1606, although it was largely rebuilt in 1967. It features a timber box-frame construction with render, lateral rubble stacks, and a pantile cross-gabled roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-gable range. The central gable showcases a symmetrical front with a jettied first floor, decorative moulded framing on the upper floors, and boxed eaves.
The entrance features a central 17th-century ribbed nine-panel door, flanked by horned plate-glass leaded sash windows. There are two canted two-storey oriels with eight-over-eight pane sashes, and a four-over-four pane sash window situated between them, along with a central canted attic oriel. A large rubble stack is located on the right side of the building. To the right, there is a gabled two-storey block that is set back, which includes a canted oriel over a pent roof, with six-over-six pane horned sashes and three-over-three panes in the attic, all in exposed frames. There are also 20th-century additions to the left that are designed in a similar style, along with 20th-century cantilevered rear elevations. The interior has not been inspected.
