Description
New Hall is a hall located in Bristol, originally built in the 13th century, largely rebuilt in 1869, and restored in 1970. The building is constructed of pennant rubble with limestone dressings and has a pantile roof. It features a rectangular, open plan design and is two storeys tall with a five-window range. The structure is symmetrical, with a right-hand parapeted link.
On the ground floor, there are wide outer two-centre arches, with the right-hand arch blocked and a 20th-century door in the left-hand arch. The two central arches contain semicircular-arched three-light windows with Y-tracery, separated by low buttresses. The first floor has three-light mullion and transom windows. There is also a narrow pointed medieval blocked doorway on the right-hand side, with a 19th-century window above it. The building features moulded eaves.
Inside, the hall was restored around 1970 and has an open first floor with a timber roof. It retains fragmentary remains of the former Dominican friary, along with the Cutlers' and Bakers' Halls nearby.
