Description

This is a late 18th-century, circa 1790, elegant farmhouse that was originally a village shop. It has since been converted into houses. The main house is two storeys with dormers, and features three windows arranged in a row. The windows are sash windows with intact glazing bars. The exterior is red brick with grey headers, and was originally painted. A white-painted timber porch is supported by slim Roman Doric columns with high bases, and incorporates an entablature. The door itself has six panels, with two being glazed, and the jambs and soffit are also panelled. The ground-floor windows are segment-headed, while the first-floor windows rise into the eaves cornice of stepped bricks and a tiled roof. A chimney is located on the ridge. A secondary, simple-hooded entrance is set within the windowless west gable. A long rear wing, likely from the 18th century, is constructed of paler brick and also contains sash windows. A chimney is present on its ridge, and a large stuccoed chimney breast features on the end gable.

Stourview House and Stourview Cottage are part of a group that also includes The Old Barn, The Granary, The Malt House, and the Barn and Railing at Stourview House and Stourview Cottage.
