Description
Ascham House is a Tudor Gothic villa built in 1865 by Habershon and Pite, now part of the College of Technology. The building is constructed entirely of rich red brick, which includes dressings, relieving arches, and hoodmoulds. It has an asymmetrical design, featuring a prominent south-east tower topped with an ogee spire and a machicolated brick cornice. The entrance has Perpendicular panelling, and there is a central canted bay window on the ground floor that connects to a rectangular first-floor window through moulded brick squinches. The south-west entrance porch has been remodelled behind its gable. The east and west sides of the house have crow-stepped gables and dormers, while a shallow court to the north is flanked by wings that end in massive crow-stepped chimney breasts.
