Description

The former lodge to Highcliffe Castle, located at No. 179 on Lymington Road, is a building dating from around 1775, although its architectural style reflects the appearance of 1830 when the current castle was constructed. The lodge is finished in stucco and features wide eaves and a hipped slate roof. It is two storeys tall, with the road-facing facade showcasing a central round-arched recess that contains a blank window space. There are flanking side recesses topped with panels. The lodge has two windows on the side facing the drive, which are flanked by pilasters with niches. The windows are barred sashes, and there is a large contemporary angled bay.

The former boundary wall of Highcliffe Castle is part of a group that includes Nos 179 and 181, a milestone opposite, St Mark's Parish Church, its lychgate, and the war memorial in the churchyard.
