Description

Greystones is an important house dating from 1911-12, designed by E.S. Prior. The house is constructed of coursed grey stone with red brick detailing and a coved rendered cornice, topped with a steeply pitched tiled roof. It features tall red brick chimneys. The building extends over two storeys, with cellars and attics.

The north-facing entrance facade is irregular. Windows are cambered casements with leaded glazing. A canopy shelters the front door. The main, south-facing facade has two diamond-shaped dormers and six windows, including a six-light bay window on the ground floor; all windows (except the bay) are flush with the walls. East and west loggias are present, the eastern loggia being two-storey in height and set under the main roof with brick columns, while the western loggia is advanced and single-storey.

Inside, the hall features wooden Tuscan columns, rough plastered walls, and a staircase reflecting a chinoiserie influence.

Together with Greystones Lodge, the property forms a notable group.
