Description

These are two late 18th-century houses. They are built of limestone ashlar with a roof that is not visible from the street. The houses have a double-depth plan, with entrances on the left side. They are two storeys and a basement in height, although No.2 has a larger basement due to the sloping ground.

No.1 is two bays wide. The ground floor has a large 20th-century three-light window with timber mullions and top-opening lights, which likely replaced an earlier shopfront. The entrance door is six-panelled with a rectangular window above. A small plinth runs along the ground floor, and a continuous timber bressumer sits above the door and window, extending across to No.2.

No.2 has a basement window behind a small area enclosed by wrought-iron railings. The ground floor window is paired with four/four sash windows. The entrance door is also six-panelled with a rectangular window above, and leads up a flight of three steps with wrought-iron railings. The first floor of each house has two six/six sash windows with horns in splayed reveals. A continuous cornice and parapet cap the facades. The rear elevation is not visible. The interior has not been inspected.
