Description

Hatfield Cottage is a detached house dating from the early 19th century, although it may incorporate earlier fabric, with 20th-century alterations. The house is built of limestone rubble and has a double Roman tile roof. The plan is of a long, single-depth gabled range, with a domestic range on the right and a service area on the left, and the building layout suggests possible earlier use as a farm or carriage house.

The two-storey facade has three windows, all two-light casements with small panes. A paired unit is present to the right of the central part, and a glazed door is set in deep plain reveals, descending two steps, with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, formerly recorded as a gable hood. To the left, there is a small square opening and a larger one with a broad flush ashlar surround at first floor, above wide 20th-century garage doors and a further wide 20th-century glazed door. The gables are coped, with a stack to the right and another at the eaves to the left of the main door. The returns are plain, and the rear is not visible. The interior has not been inspected.
