Description

The remains of the city walls are a section of the town wall built in the 4th century and later repaired and rebuilt during medieval times. Constructed from coursed squared limestone, the wall features a battlemented parapet and survives to a height of four courses, measuring approximately twenty meters. This section is part of the Roman town wall of Bath, originally built in stone in the 4th century, and was largely demolished in the 1760s. The current appearance dates from around 1959 when this stretch was almost completely demolished, reducing its height from approximately six meters. This remains one of the most significant sections of the city wall.
