Description
Nos 38 and 40 High Street is a house that has been subdivided, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone with rusticated quoins and features a reproduction stone slate roof with coped raised verges and a coved eaves cornice. The building has two storeys and includes four glazing bar sash windows. The first-floor windows on the right have raised stone surrounds, while the center window features imposts and a keystone that extends up to the cornice. There is a moulded string course on the right part of the building. The wide central doorway is topped by a later 18th-century Gothick style overlight and is framed by a plain surround with a segmental head, imposts, and a keystone, along with a flat stone hood supported by brackets. The panelled door on the left (No 38) is also beneath a flat stone hood on brackets.
