Description
5 and 6 Grove Street are two terrace houses that have been converted into shops. They were built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The buildings are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a double-pitched mansard roof, with double Roman tiles on the upper slope and slate on the lower slope. There are two dormer windows on the left and moulded stacks on the party walls.
The exterior consists of three storeys with an attic and cellar, arranged in a symmetrical three-window layout. The coped parapet, cornice, and ground floor platband are continuous with those of the adjacent No. 4, the Rising Sun Public House. The upper floors have mid-19th century sash windows with two-over-two panes and horizontal glazing bars. The central entrance features a six-panel door with an overlight, flanked by small plate glass shop windows that have cornices on their fascias and panelled pilasters on their frames. There is also a 20th-century door to the far left that leads to a former carriageway. The interior has not been inspected.
