Description

This is a canal bridge built around 1805 for the Somerset Coal Canal Company. The surveyor for the company was William Smith, known as the "Father of British Geology," and the engineer for the nearby flight of locks was likely William Bennet. The bridge is constructed of ashlar stone and features a single span arch with a keystone. It has a parapet above a plain cornice, and the supporting walls below connect to a lock to the south.
