Description

This is a detached house dating from the late 19th century. Constructed of hard red brick, primarily in a modified Flemish bond with some stretcher bands, the house sits on stone foundation walls. It has ashlar dressings and a triple-pitched tiled roof. The building has a wide-spanning roof and symmetrical elevations on both the north and south sides, with small, original lean-to additions at each end. The two-storey, three-window front features two-light casement windows with stone mullions, surrounds, and dripmoulds. A steeply gabled porch is centrally located on the ground floor, with a blind trefoil above a pointed opening featuring large cusping, leading to an inner plank door. A mid-level platband runs across the front, and coped gables incorporate brick stacks on ashlar dressings. The rear is identical in design. The plain gable ends feature lean-to additions with a single original narrow casement, small square lights, and plank entrance doors. The interior has not been inspected. Lynbrook Cottage is part of a group including Lynbrook Cottages and Nos 1 and 2 Entry Hill Cottages.
