Description

This chest tomb, located 5 yards to the south-east of the porch of the Church of St. John the Baptist, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from Bath stone ashlar and features panelled sides with a moulded cornice. Projecting Tuscan columns flank inscribed panels that are adorned with carved decorative friezes. The end panels display carved foliage decoration and heads. This tomb is a finely carved example of the local tradition of chest tombs and enhances the setting of the church.
