Description
This barn, located to the south of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the late medieval period, likely the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone quoins and dressings, topped with a Cotswold stone slate roof featuring coped raised verges and finials. The barn has a central projecting gabled porch supported by setback buttresses, with a four-centred arch framed by a quarter round moulded surround and a dripmould above. The rear elevation includes two buttresses with offsets, two slit vents on the ground floor, and later square loft doors above, along with a central segmental carriage entry. Inside, the south side of the porch has a blocked pointed doorway in an ovolo moulded surround, and the interior features seven bays with king post trusses. The barn was likely built for the Shaftesbury Abbey estate.
