Description

Dower House is a two-storey house located on Durrington Hill, originally built as outbuildings and now converted from a former barn. The main eastern section is constructed of flint with brick dressings and likely dates from the same time as Durrington Manor or slightly later. It features a tiled roof that is half-hipped at the eastern end. The north side has vertical quoin-bands, a dormer window towards the west end, and a modern ground floor window at the eastern end. The south front has been altered. To the west of the barn, there is a short cross-range that resembles a cottage, which was probably built before the Manor but has been largely reconstructed, including the west front that has reset old timber over the left ground-floor window. This section is also made of flint with brick dressings and has a tiled roof. A tablet on the north side indicates the year "1819." This building is included for its group value with Durrington Manor.
