Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage dating from circa 1723, with an extension built in 1808 and further alterations in the 19th century. The main part of the cottage is faced with knapped flint and has red brick dressings, while a later one-bay addition on the right-hand side, dated 1808 and constructed of matching materials, bears the initials “O” and “T A” (representing Overington). A one-bay addition to the left-hand side is rendered. The roof is tiled and features three brick chimney stacks. The cottage has two storeys and three windows to the main part. It has 19th-century casement windows, end quoins, aprons beneath the first-floor windows, and a plinth. The later door on the right-hand side is set within an original brick surround. The rear elevation has two gables. Inside, there is a brick open fireplace with a wooden bressumer featuring a lamb's tongue stop and a spice cupboard. A large axial beam is present, although some of the floor joists are rough poles.
