Description
The South West Lodge of Balcombe Place, along with the adjoining gate piers and flanking walls, was built in 1858 and designed by architect Henry Clutton. This T-shaped stone building is a single storey with one window on each front and features a tiled roof. Each wing has a gable with scalloped barge-boards, and the date along with the initials "H. A. J." are displayed. The lodge has casement windows with stone mullions. To the south west of the lodge are stone gate-piers topped with obelisks. To the north west, there is a curved stone wall with a pierced ornamental balustrade, and to the south east of the gate-piers is a similar L-shaped stone wall also featuring a pierced ornamental balustrade.
