Description
Great Harwood Barn is a barn built in the late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century and a 19th-century addition to the eastern end, which includes pig sties on the northern side. The barn is timber-framed and covered in weatherboarding, resting on a brick base, and features a peg tiled roof that is half-hipped on the west side and hipped on the east side. It has central double cart doors and consists of five bays. The roof is supported by angled queen struts and lacks a ridge piece, with through purlins present. The jowled posts have a cut profile, and there is a midrail in the wall frame along with some diagonal tension braces. The fourth bay on the eastern side has a queen post roof. The east wall was renewed in the late 19th century when the lean-to pig sties were added to the north, and some later diagonal braces are also present.
