Description

Clair-voyee, built around 1890 by C E Kempe, is part of his improvements to Old Place. It features a section of brown brick walling that stands almost 18 feet high, with a crow-stepped end. The structure includes two moulded sandstone gatepiers topped with ball finials, which support a cast and wrought iron screen in Jacobean style. This screen has spear railings and a scrolled top, with small panels that open in the center. The design was intended to create a visual feature from Old Place, originally facing open countryside.
