Description
Keepers Mead is a house dating from around 1620, which was refronted in the 19th century and extended by two bays in a matching style in the late 20th century. The original part of the house is timber framed, with the ground floor refronted in render, while some framing is visible on the rear elevation. Above, the house features tile hanging with an alternating series of plain and curved tiles. The right side elevation is constructed of sandstone blocks. The roof is newly tiled and includes a red brick chimney stack along with two later brick chimney stacks.
The house is two storeys high with two windows in the original part. The first-floor windows are gabled dormers fitted with 20th-century casements. The ground floor also has 20th-century casement windows, including a four-light bay on the right side. A 20th-century gabled weather porch is present at the entrance. The date of 1620 is noted on the back of the dining room's inglenook fireplace. Inside, the dining room features a 1½ inch Chanford spine beam with lambs tongue stops and floor joists with run-out stops. The rear wall has a box frame with a midrail. The lounge contains a similar spine beam and floor joists, along with a moulded bracket beneath the spine beam. The first floor showcases jowled posts, a midrail, and a series of carpenters' marks. The roof has a queen post structure with through purlins and original rafters, retaining original wattle and daub and early brickwork at the top of the chimney stack.
