Description

The Parish Church of St Andrew is a Grade I listed building located on Church Street in Steyning. The church features a chancel with north and south chapels, a nave with aisles, a south porch, and a west tower. The nave dates back to the 12th century and is considered one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Sussex. The south door is an original 12th-century door with a sanctuary ring. The west tower, built around 1600, showcases a distinctive chequer work of stone and flints. The chancel was rebuilt by the Duke of Norfolk around 1750, replacing the original central tower and chancel that had fallen into ruins by 1578.
