Description
The Angmering War Memorial is made of Portland stone and features a tall octagonal Latin cross, designed in the style of Reginald Blomfield's Cross of Sacrifice. The memorial stands approximately 4.2 meters high, with the shaft ending in a curved moulded block. This is set atop a narrow octagonal plinth and an octagonal two-stepped base that has a paved surround.
The memorial commemorates 40 names from the First World War and 11 names from the Second World War. Due to the unequal octagonal sides, the First World War inscription and names are mainly placed on the wider faces of the plinth, while the Second World War names, along with any subsequently added names, are located on the narrower faces.
The inscription for the First World War reads: 1914 / IN / REMEMBRANCE / OF THESE / WHO SERVED / AND DIED / IN THE WAR / 1918. The Second World War inscriptions state: 1939 / (NAMES) / 1945.
