Description

The Old Canal Bridge, located on footpath 157 in Yapton, is a former canal bridge dating from around 1820. It is constructed of brick, primarily in Flemish bond. This single-arch, humped-back bridge features parapets and retaining walls. It is a significant structural remnant of the former Portsmouth and Arundel Canal, which was built between 1817 and 1823 and abandoned in the mid-19th century. The bridge is believed to be the only surviving structure from the canal.
