Description

Amberley Farm House is a hall house dating from the early 16th century, with a 17th-century cross-wing added to the right. The house was refaced in the 18th century, featuring a stone dated 1747 on the left-hand return front. It is timber framed and clad in sandstone rubble with brick dressings. The frame is exposed on the ground floor of the cross-wing, which has brick infill, while the upper part is tile hung, some of which is arranged in fishscale bands. The roofs are plain tiled, hipped with a gablet at the right end of the main range.

The house has two storeys and includes a multiple ridge stack positioned to the left of centre, along with a plinth that has a moulded brick top across the front. A plat band runs over the ground floor, rising to the right above the windows. The fenestration consists of casement windows, with three on the first floor; the central window is smaller and set in a deep chamfered surround. There is one window on the ground floor to the right and an angle bay window to the left. The cross-wing has one window on each floor, with a pentice hood over the first-floor casement. The gable apex of the cross-wing features a pyramidal and square pendant finial.

A half-glazed door leads to the lobby entry on the main range, set in an elliptical arched surround with a keystone and impost blocks. There is an additional door on the ground floor of the cross-wing. The right-hand return front displays three framed bays with diagonal bracing and a stack to the left. This building is part of a good group of farm buildings.
