Description

The Corner is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added to the right in 1888 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, marking his first commission. The building features a timber frame, covered in whitewashed roughcast, with a tile-hung gable end on the left. The extensions are also whitewashed roughcast and tile-hung above, sweeping out over the ground floor. The roofs, which are plain tiled, were restored in the 21st century.

The house has two storeys and includes a corbelled late 19th-century stack on the left side of the ridge, along with additional stacks at the junction of the two ranges, as well as at the rear and on the right-hand return front. The first floor has four three-light windows, while the ground floor has three casements. There is a four-light window on the first floor under a drip hood at the end of the right wing, and another first-floor window on the left-hand return wall of the wing beneath the eaves gable.

The entrance door is located to the right of centre in a gabled porch, which is boarded and features a segmental arch over the door, along with single leaded windows on either side. To the right of the door, there is another window beneath a pentice roof that continues from the porch. Additionally, there are further casement doors at the centre, situated in a hip-roofed porch with a four-light window to the right. The wings of the house extend at right angles to the rear.
