Description
This barn, dating from approximately 1700 or later, is located at Glen Farm. It is a timber and brick structure with a corrugated iron roof, gabled at the south end, creating three bays of unequal length beneath the main roof, with a fourth bay under a sloped roof at the south end. The east front is largely clad in horizontal boarding, with brickwork visible in the lower portion of the first bay. A brick lean-to with a corrugated iron roof extends along the side of the third and fourth bays. Horizontal boarding covers the north, west, and south fronts, although brickwork fills the lower part of the second bay on the west front. The northernmost bay has a tiled floor. An upper floor has been installed, stopping short halfway across the fourth bay. The north wall displays jowled main posts and a truss featuring a tie-beam, collar, and principals. Subsequent trusses feature jowled main posts, arched braces, tie-beams, principals, and angle-struts. The fourth truss is of Queen post design. Approximately three meters north of the barn are the remnants of a horse engine, its shaft extending into the barn and connecting with surviving machinery. A brick chamber, with its floor nearly four feet below the rest of the barn, occupies the west side of the second bay.
