Description

House. Dating back to the 15th century, with extensions added in the 16th and 17th centuries and alterations made in the 19th century, this building is of group value. It is timber-framed, with exposed framing and whitewashed brick infill on the front, and tile hanging on the left-hand return front. The roof is plain tiled, with coved rendered eaves and gablets, and features a rendered ridge stack to the left of centre, along with an end ridge stack on the wing to the left. Originally a Hall House, it now has an L-shaped plan with a wing set at right angles to the left. The main wing has two storeys and three framed bays, with massive brackets to the upright posts at eaves height. The projecting wing to the left displays square panel framing. The first floor has three diamond-pane leaded casement windows, while the ground floor right features a C20 square bay on brackets under a hipped roof. A Tudor-arched ribbed door is located to the left of centre, set within a brick and rubble pent roof C20 porch placed in the re-entrant angle of the wings. A double ribbed garage door is found at the right end, also under a hipped roof, and a pent roof extension projects from the left end. The right-hand return front has two 17th-century diamond mullion four-light openings on the first floor. The left-hand return front presents a regular three-windowed façade with casement windows. A central ribbed door is set within a gabled porch. Internally, the roof of the former hall retains a massive tie beam central truss with braces, a short octagonal carved Crown post, early board panelling, exposed ceiling frames, and a deep fireplace.
