Description
The barn at Bousley Farm is a structure from the early to mid-17th century that has been altered, likely in the 18th century when it was extended by one bay to the south. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, sitting on a high red brick plinth. The center bay of the original structure includes a projecting gabled porch on the east side, which has double wagon doors, and there are also wagon doors on the west side. To the east, there is a lean-to outshut.
Inside, the barn consists of four bays since the 18th century, with heavily jowled posts and curved braces supporting the tie-beams and curved wall braces, except in the southernmost bay, which has wall framing made of thinner materials. There are mortises indicating the former end wall in the tie beam between the third and fourth bays from the north. The roof is a queen post design, and the lower wall compartments of the northern three bays also feature wall framing of thinner scantling.
