Description
Murray House, dated 1836 and designed by Sampson Kempthorne, is a two-storey building of red brick. The listing covers only the front elevation, which features 25 windows arranged including five window links to three-window end pavilions. A slightly advanced central section is topped with a pediment containing a roundel. A sill band runs along the first floor. The central area and end pavilions have stuccoed ground floors. Gauged flat arches frame the sash windows; some windows retain their original glazing bars, while others have been altered. The main entrance is a six-panel door with a fanlight, surmounted by a pediment supported on shaped brackets. The building was referenced in Architectura Magazine and appears in the Biographical Dictionary of English Architects.
