Description
This is a late 18th-century lodge and gate house, forming the entrance to Ottershaw House, located on the Coach Road. The complex comprises a pair of lodges positioned on either side of the entrance drive. They are primarily one storey in height, with two windows each. The lodges are constructed of stone or stucco, and are painted. The north-facing windows are distinguished by sculpted panels situated above them, and are flanked by engaged Doric columns. The buildings feature a modillioned eaves cornice with a plain course above. They have slate pyramidal roofs topped with central chimneys. The entrance is marked by a pair of ornate 20th-century iron gates, supported by panelled standards surmounted by urns adorned with flowers. These gates are flanked by railings and pedestrian gates, which are likely of earlier date and of lower height. The property is mentioned in Lair and Pevsner’s ‘Surrey’ (1962), page 337.
