Description
This coal and wine tax post, located 185 yards south of the junction with Vicarage Close, was created around 1861 by Henry Grissell. Made of metal, it stands approximately 3 feet high and features a four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above. The pier has a moulded capital band and a pyramidal top. The front displays the City of London shield, and the lettering on the pier reads "24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42". The maker's name is found on the rear. This post marks the boundary where tax was payable on coal, a duty that dates back to the 1660s.
