Description
Nos 2 to 6 on South Street, which also includes the frontage on West Street as far as No 1 West Street, are early 19th century buildings. Until recently, the business at Nos 4 and 6 was marked "Established 1757". The buildings feature a slate roof and an eaves bracket cornice, and are faced with roughcast. They stand three storeys high with three windows that have sash designs and flush boxes, with the glazing bars intact. On the first floor, there are three early 19th century bay windows. No 2 has a modern shop front, while Nos 4 and 6 have 19th century shop fronts, although the glazing bars are missing. Photographs of the buildings are available in the National Monuments Record. Nos 2 to 46 on South Street form a group.
