Description
The United Reformed Church, originally listed as the Congregational Church, was built in 1834 by architect William Hopperton from London and Shearburn. This brick building features a temple-like front that rises two storeys and is topped with a rectangular pediment. The exterior includes stuccoed long and short quoins, a stringcourse, and decorative door cases and window dressings, with the pediment also rendered. There are three round-headed windows with impost moulding. On the ground floor, there are three doorways: a central doorway with a flat-headed arch, flanked by engaged pilasters and an entablature, along with a decorative overdoor. The end doorways are round-headed, featuring moulded architraves and keystones, set within doorcases that have rectangular pediments supported by engaged, partly rusticated pilasters.
