Description

Burpham House is a house that has been converted into two shops and an office. It dates from the early 19th century and has been altered over time. The front is made of yellow stock brick, while the rear is constructed of red brick, topped with a modern pantile roof that is concealed. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan, with a workshop or service wing located at the rear of the left side.

It stands two storeys high and features three symmetrical bays. The central round-headed doorway has a gauged brick head and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars, although it currently lacks an outer door. At the ground floor, large rectangular plate glass windows have been inserted, while the first floor has three 12-pane unhorned sash windows with raised sills and gauged brick heads. The building is finished with a parapet that includes brick modillions and has a hipped roof.

The rear of the building has shallow-segmental-headed windows, including three 12-pane unhorned sashes, but has been altered in other respects. The two-storey, two-bay rear wing is rendered at the ground floor and features a 9-pane sash window on the left, a segmental-headed three-light casement on the right, and a doorway at the first floor that is accessed by a flight of wooden steps. The interior has also been altered.
