Description
These are a row of six cottages, numbered 2 to 9, forming part of Spring Gardens, dating to the mid to late 18th century. They were likely originally built as cottages, with ground floors constructed of brick and upper floors of oak timber framing with brick infilling. The exteriors are clad in weatherboarding, with Roman numerals visible on the uprights. Numbers 4 and 5 have weatherboarding that extends down almost to ground floor level. The weatherboarding on the first floor of number 9 has been removed to reveal the timber framing. Each cottage has one window bay and a doorway, featuring casement windows with small panes. A leaded casement window is located on the rear elevation of number 9. The roofs are tiled with half-hips, and the cottages have red brick chimneys. Inside, exposed ground floor ceiling beams are present in numbers 4 and 9, along with brick ground floor fireplaces supported by timber lintols. Plaked wooden doors are a feature, and there were formerly stone slab floors at ground level. Number 7 previously contained a bread oven.
