Description

The Old Mill House is an early 19th-century building located on Balchin's Lane in Wescott. It is two storeys high and features four windows. The exterior is made of painted brick with a tiled roof. The first floor has ordinary sash windows with intact glazing bars, while the ground floor includes French windows and sliding sash windows. This house was originally associated with a mill that was built over a stream at the edge of a lake behind the property. Little of the mill remains today, except for brick arches that span the stream, allowing water to flow through. Part of the original sandstone rubble walling that encloses a cellar is still visible. Above the ground floor, the space is now occupied by a modern house. There is a historical reference to a mill on this site in the Domesday Book.
