Description
5 and 6 Millmead is a house that has been divided and converted into offices. It dates from the early 17th century, with an 18th-century extension to the rear right, a 19th-century extension to the rear left, and 20th-century additions and restoration. The building is timber framed and clad in whitewashed roughcast at the front, with pebbledash on the ground floor of the left-hand return front and tile hanging above. It features plain tiled roofs and has a central chimney plan. The structure is two storeys high with attics, and there are two on-eaves dormers, each containing a 2-light casement window. A corbelled multiple stack is located at the center, with an additional valley stack at the rear. On the first floor, there are two 2-light casement windows, with the left window having fixed lights flanking it. The ground floor has one large mullioned and transomed window to the left and a 3-light window to the right. There are half-glazed doors on the left and right, both sheltered by slate pent hoods. Inside, some framing is exposed, and many roof timbers have been renewed during restoration. An early 17th-century brick and tile floor was discovered during the restoration.
